The breadsticks and calzones are my fave things to get here. Pizza is solid - piled high with fresh toppings. Nice laid back restaurant/bar atmosphere. Great place to catch any games that are on. Good portions. Usually not too busy.
I like Caps, When I went in it was last minute. I was walking nearby and decided to try the wings . I had a beer while I waited, it took 15-20minutes which is cool with me. I like my chicken cooked, But I ordered 12 mild flavor. I enjoyed the flavor; they gave me lots of sauce. Chicken wings were big and had lots of meat. The waiter/cashiers were nice and informational. Unfortunately, I was walking pass a couple days ago and they are closing down. Wish I would have eaten here more often.
The good news: tasty food and drinks, all reasonably priced. The bad news: closed for good a week ago. Thank you and good luck to the staff.
Sad to hear this place closed down. We will miss their great pizza. Owner said they never recovered from the lockdown. I realized I never wrote a review and they deserve one, after sixty years in business they deserve congratulation. Support your local small business guys.
Great food and drinks. Full bar, beer and wine. Hours are kind of wild but open late-ish during the week only. New photos of what it actually looks like now as well as current menu. The pizza was delish, the stupid breadsticks (jalapeño) Were so good! Will def return on my next trip and try the pastas on the menu. Thank you Tyler for all your recommendations, being super hospitable and running all the tables by yourself.
Being newly relocated to the Marina District we began our search for eateries. More specific, pizza was the focus yesterday. Ya, I know Little Italy is very close by, but good food comes from many different places and price was an important factor as well. So, we decided on Caps. It's been here a gazillion years so why not! We ordered the Extravaganza pizza (small) and the Spaghetti EVOO. Holy Moly, we hit a home run! Caps is small & cozy. Reminded me of the neighborhood bars back east, and very friendly. We parked right in front. Now, you might be hesitant about the little hotel next door to Caps which is run down, but it had no effect when when entering Caps. The tables and chairs were all wood, and a very long wooden bar with tv's and customers watching the baseball game. All was Clean and inviting. We called in our order to go, but actually if time had permitted it would have been nice to sit at the bar for a cocktail. Another time!! Two very nice ladies waited on me and brought the food out promptly. One lady made sure to tell me there were chili flakes, napkins, and asked if I needed silverware. $27.00 later and the smell of the food was permeating the car. The short 10 min drive home, put the food on the table and we dug in. Sorry no photos! (Ha). That little pizza was loaded, and each ingredient was fresh and super tasty, including the gooey cheese. GONE!!! Although pretty much full, We tackled the spaghetti. It was good, Al dente, with a good amount of olive oil. Here is where a dropped star came in, not enough fresh garlic, and no salt was used to cook the pasta! You gotta have salt in the water to cook pasta because there is no way to fix it afterwards. Thank you Caps we will be back soon to try your other delicious dishes!
This restaurant doesn't look like much, but their food and customer service are good. My chicken alfredo pizza and Diet Coke were delicious. They're short-staffed though so I wouldn't recommend them if you don't have much time.
Great Italian food here. Just moved to San Diego and this place is a gem. Try the lasagna, sooo good! We will be back.
We found Caps last summer and remembered it for our first dinner in Las Vegas this year. Great Italian food -and lots of it! - at very reasonable prices. I found my small meat-lover's pizza was plenty for two meals. It was so full of meat that pieces kept falling off with plenty still on top. Yummy! We've had a variety of pastas, all excellent, along with great garlicky garlic bread and garlic cheese bread. A nice place with outstanding food!
My son had been telling me about this restaurant for a few years now, always talking about going there together when down in SD. It finally came to fruition this past Thursday evening. We arrived about 5:20 and were seated right away (x4 adults and x1 toddler). The table and highchair were clean. They were understaffed and had only two people working the floor, for a decent size establishment with a majority of tables taken up. We were not very happy with the wait service, but after realizing two poor schmucks had to run around like chickens with their heads cut off I/we changed our tune; especially once our order was taken. I can see why my son bragged this place up, as the foods that came out were delicious!! I ordered the Italian Sausage sandwich (Spicy Italian sausage topped w/ marinara sauce, mozzarella, & parmesan cheese) with sauteed green peppers and onions. The wife ordered the Club sandwich (Turkey, ham, Swiss & provolone). Both sandwiches were toasted. The others ordered a Cap's Works pizza (Pepperoni, Sausage, Mushrooms, Bell Pepper, Onions) and chicken wings. We also ordered a basket of Frings (fries and onion rings) to share. The sandwiches and pizza were large, LOADED and all tasted great!! The fries and onion rings were hot, firm and seasoned well! Everything we ate was good to go! The prices are very reasonable, especially for "downtown" SD! This place is locked in as a place to eat again at in the future, albeit there are so many restaurants in the city. Highly recommended if in the area. It's within close proximity to the San Diego Civic Theater if you are going to a show and want to eat nearby.
